My initial designs for this painting were to bring in the gentle wave motion that was an integral part of the Tufton Oceanic logo. From this starting point, the waves developed on either side of the painting, into the curvatures of crashing waves. The idea behind the structural element of the painting was to provide a positive and personal interaction between the painting’s eventual environment and the viewers. With both deliberation and serendipity, the shapes and colours within the main constrains of the overall shapes, developed from a feeling and understanding of the paint. The ‘inner’ shapes changed and organised themselves into the gentle flowing motions of the sea and land as one overlaps the other to become one for that brief moment in time.
